Preflop is a touchy time for some poker players. Loose players want to play every hand they have, while tight players want to embrace their inner rock. Who is right and who is wrong in the preflop shuffle?

Both players are. You see, there is a time and a place to fold your hand, and there’s a time and a place to bet on your hand. To look at the situation without looking at starting hands would really be a disservice.

However, we’re here to speak out on the benefits of pre-flop folding. Now, we just got done telling you that sometimes you just have to go all in and bet hard on your hand. We’re not saying that folding takes away that principle in the slightest. What we are saying though is that you really need to make sure that you think carefully about the type of situation that you walk into within each poker game.

Starting hands are going to be your best starting place to really make sure that you have the right hand before you decide whether to fold or not. If you just play every hand that you come across, you’re going to be seen as a loose player that is just a big calling station. As you know from other guides, a calling station is exactly the type of player that we want to avoid becoming.

You need to also think about the possible hands that everyone else could play as well. Is your hand really as strong as what could be on the table? For example, if you have a 2-6 in your hand, you really don’t want to keep that. Hoping and praying that your luck is going to change really isn’t going to get you what you need at all. You might get lucky and get enough connectors to make a straight, but what usually happens is two pair — and neither one of the potential pairs are going to be any good. Maybe you’ll get really lucky and get a freak flop where you can get a full house or three of a kind, but those are so rare that it’s much more intelligent to fold.

Folding doesn’t mean that you’re a weak poker player. A lot of newcomers to the world of poker assume that if they’re folding any hands that it means that they are obviously weak poker players, but this is really not the case at all. It’s a lot smarter to fold when you know that the odds are against you than to just assume that you will always be making the right calls the first time out of the gate. You need to step back and look at your opponents too — chances are good that they’re not folding every hand like you are, but that they are playing their hands selectively.

There is much to praise about folding a hand pre-flop, especially when you know that you don’t have a strong hand going in. You might be tempted like many players to call just to make sure that you can see what the flop is going to be like. While it seems like an innocent move, the truth is that if you aren’t careful you’ll end up spending a lot of money over the long run. When you start playing poker for money, you also start thinking about it in terms of real dollars and cents — at least you should. When you call into a flop where you know that you have weak hands, you’re basically saying that you don’t mind throwing good money after bad pots. Advanced players are going to pick up on this and make sure that they either bluff you out, or otherwise intimidate you. This kills your bankroll, and what is the most important concept of poker?

Managing your bankroll, of course! Now, if you’re tired of us talking about the almighty bankroll, that’s fine, but it really is that important. It really is that critical. It is really is that special. You don’t want to end up overlooking this point and leaving yourself exposed — it’s so much easier to just make sure that you are only going into pots where you feel like there’s a good chance that you’ll win big.

At the end of the day, we can’t overlook our good friend luck in all of this. Even if you make sure that your strategy is where it needs to be, you can’t overlook the fact that sometimes the board moves against you. You fold 2-7 because it’s the smart thing to do, only to find that the flop comes down as 7-7-3 or something equally wacky. Throwing away a potential for three of a kind or better is tough, but the math supports you folding that 2-7. Leave the luck to someone with big pockets that doesn’t mind throwing money away and pocket the rest for yourself — that’s really all there is to it!

The variations of the poker game known as Texas hold ‘em is said to have been born in Robstown, Texas in the United States of America in or around 1900. As the popularity of the game spread through Texas, it wasn’t until the mid 1960s that the game was introduced in Las Vegas, Nevada by four veteran card playing gamblers.

The Golden Nugget Casino in Las Vegas offered the game for many years, and since the Golden Nugget was not considered an up-scale casino, professional and rich card players only heard of the game in 1969 when Texas hold ‘em was offered as part of a tournament at the Dunes Casino. By the following year, the owners of the tournament changed the tournament’s name to the World Series of Poker and moved to Binion’s Horseshoe Casino. While there were only eight people who entered in the Binion’s no-limit Texas hold ‘em tournament in 1972, more than one hundred entered to play in 1982. By 1991, the number of players had risen to well over two hundred.

As years passed, the game grew in popularity and in the late 1970s, the first poker strategy guide, Super/System , to mention Texas hold ‘em was published. The book was self-published and sold for $100 USD, but became one of the most important books that discuss Texas hold ‘em. A few years later, the same author published The Biggest Game in Town, in which the 1981 World Series of Poker event was described.

Due to the coverage of Texas hold ‘em in televised poker programs, the game has exploded in popularity. Not only a staple of World Series of Poker tournaments, Texas hold ‘em games have been featured in Hollywood movies such as Rounders, and was the main part of the plot in the James Bond film Casino Royale. Many strategy books have been written about Texas hold ‘em, as well as books that include personal accounts of high stakes poker tournaments and one-on-one Texas hold ‘em games.

Online gaming sites have also been a large part of the reason for the growing popularity of Texas hold ‘em poker games. People are able to learn the rules and strategies of Texas hold ‘em in the comfort of their own homes and are even afforded the option of playing in large satellite tournaments with players from around the world. This is true for other types of gaming sites as well. Online bingo playing has also exponentially increased due to the availability of games online, click here to play at one of the major bingo sites. The ability to learn the basics of the game in a cheap and easy format such as online game play is one of the biggest factors that have led to the popularity of the game on the Internet.

Psst…Wanna c-bet? Don’t worry, we’re not being obscene here — we’re just asking if you’ve gotten the scoop on the continuation bet. Despite this being a pretty simple process of thought, the reality is that not everyone seems to really understand what a continuation bet is. Even though it’s a simple concept, it’s very powerful and you want to make sure that you understand the entire concept before unleashing this tactic in the world. It’s definitely something that comes into play during No Limit Texas Hold’Em tables.

Simply put, a continuation bet is just one that’s made on the flop, following a bet that you made on the flop. This is something that tends to tap into the psychological side of poker, where people have to step back and see that you’re actually trying to get things done in a big way when it comes to the game of poker. Lucky for you these people will never see that, which means that there’s always chances to get one over on people. Most of the time your opponent is going to see your raise and assume that you caught something good. Otherwise why would you bet twice in a row?

The best continuation bets are when you are betting 2/3 to 3/4 the size of the pot in play. However, not all is pleasant in continuation bet paradise. You will need to really make sure that you’ve looked at the table in question. It’s a good idea not to just ride on the continuation bet. You always want to be surveying your opponents quite well. You don’t want to just assume that you will never have to deal with any type of opposition just because you made the c-bet. Be sure that you’re actually prepared to back of the c-bet if things go sour. Folding your hand and keeping in the game can be essential when it comes to say, SNG tournaments. Once you bust out, the game is over.

Continuation bets are dangerous against “calling stations” — players that seem to call no matter what. You want to always make sure that you are truly studying your competitors from every angle before you just raise bets.

Overall, you can tell from this guide that this will be a strategy that you can rely on for a while — why not practice putting it into practice today?

There a few things that players tend to hate about Texas Hold’Em across the board, and one of the most hated components of the game would have to be the blinds. Yes, we all hate having to put our money in the pot. If you’re not careful, the blind can really eat up all of the money that you wanted to put in the pot. If you’re also unaware, players can use the blinds against you. You might go ahead and jump into a pot, just because you paid for it already. Sometimes it’s better to go ahead and fold even when you feel like you might have a chance. Since poker is also a game of math, it means that you need to ensure that you really aren’t just throwing your money away pot after pot. It can be better to cut your losses than it would be to try to figure out how you’re going to overcome pot odds when you don’t have a good hand.

Yes, we said it — hand selection is still going to be the order of the day. You’re still going to need to make sure that you are selecting the right hands at the right moment. What might sound like a good hand becomes a bad hand once the raises and the counter-raises come. It’s better to try to just roll with the punches as much as possible. You might really want to stay in a hand, but if things don’t look good, there’s nothing that says that you have to stay in a losing hand.

The blind are composed of two parts — the small blind as well as the big blind. As you might imagine, your strategy is going to be different depending on whether or not you’re the big blind or the small blind. Let’s see what you need to do, shall we?

If you’re the small blind, you have half the bet in the pot already. So you get to see the flop for less than what other people have to pay to see it. This can help you figure out your next move. If the pot is unraised, then you get to peek and figure out where to progress — make sure that you take this opportunity. Far too often people ignore the point of positioning and blinds together. When combined, you actually have a pretty powerful team on your hands.

Suited cards are going to be the preferred pick over unsuited cards. Make sure that you focus on premium selections rather than just going into a pot because you feel committed. This will make you a much weaker player in the long run.

It’s important to watch out for traps in the small blind, because you can get sucked into pots that really aren’t worth your time otherwise. Take for example if you have a low pair. You might want to push in because of the possibility of getting triplets, right? Wrong. If the big blind is going in, you have to make sure that you weigh your options. It’s better to fold than to get pushed out because another player at the table had a higher pair plus a kicker that beats your pair. This happens a lot to new players, and it’s something that takes their money for no other reason than ignorance. Remember that ignorance is simply the lack of knowledge on a subject — you don’t have to beat yourself up about it!

The last thing that you need to know is that in the small blind, you’re going to be the first to bet. That is definitely a sticky and risky situation — don’t let it get the best of you! A lot of guides skip over tilt, thinking that players have been warned enough. Yet we don’t think so; mastering your emotions should be part of any poker player’s strategy. The day you forget this is going to be the day that you just don’t get your pots won.

Moving on to the big blind, you’re going to pretty much be getting to see the flop for free. If you have a strong hand, you’re definitely well within your rights to use this to your advantage. There’s nothing that says that you can’t just push in and see what things look like. It’s better to make sure that you study your hand carefully. For example, AA or KK or even AK/AKs should be raised. The only time where you don’t want to raise is when there’s only a handful of players in the pot. It’s too hard to disguise a raise. You can check and then build the flop slowly. It’s risk vs. reward in full swing — you might hit the pot, or you might let your opponents catch too much fire and boil out of control, snatching your well deserved pot away from you.

These rules are not really set in stone. They’re more or less guidelines that can help you succeed in the world of poker. Armed with these tips and your own ability to change your image at the poker table, you should do just fine!

If you’re new to the world of online poker, you might wonder how you’re ever going to possibly get the practice that you need in order to move higher and higher up the ranks. Poker is not as easy as games like bingo. Bingo games such as City Bingo are very intuitive and easy to pick. But poker takes years to master. The answer is simple: freerolls. As the name suggests, freerolls are simply tournaments that don’t cost you anything to enter. You might think that it would be silly for casino owners to even offer freerolls, but it’s actually a great way to get players into the game. It brings in players that wouldn’t normally have a chance to really get their feet wet a real opportunity to show people what they are made of. However, it can also attract people that are just trying to escape the boredom of a Friday night alone at home. Your mileage will always vary with freerolls because hey, people are truly people no matter where they live or what they do. Yet there are some strong benefits for playing freerolls.

You get the practice and the experience without having to have that experience come out of your pocket. So what if there are people that are better than you at the tournament — you aren’t paying for it, so it’s free experience that you’ll review and reflect on for a long time. You don’t have to feel like it’s impossible to get things done, either — we’ve got the scoop on what you need to know in order to get things done in the freeroll universe.

We’ve already touched on the type of people that you’re likely to enter in a freeroll tournament. So this means that you will need to adjust your strategy big time in order to ensure that you’re going to be able to really compete. You should always be playing to win no matter what type of tournament that you’re in. A lot of players blow off freerolls, but it’s nice to win one or two to still make sure that you really have what it takes to compete over other people.

All ego jokes aside, you will need to really make sure that you are playing aggressively but tightly at the same time. While you don’t want to be a rock that never moves, you definitely don’t want to go in soft and hope that you’ll just get carried along in the chaos. You want to go in and raise hard, you want to go in and play big bets. This will show that you mean business and you’ll be able to pick off weaker players that are too scared to lose any chips. Fearful players are part of the fabric of freeroll life, and their chips will look even nicer when they’re assimilated into your chip stack.

Borg much? We thought so, but hey — chips are chips. And like the sci-fi hit slogan goes, resistance really is futile!

One thing that you don’t want to do is try to play weak starting hands. This is a time where folding is definitely a good idea. Yes, there might be other people around you that are trying to play off weak hands, but it’s really not a good idea at all. You still need to make sure that you are evaluating your hands and only playing the ones that actually have a good chance at winning. Leave the sucker hands to the suckers, people.

Before the flop, you will want to go all-in typically on large pocket pairs, like AA, KK, QQ. AK is also another hand where you want to go all in.

Why would we tell you to go all-in? Well, it helps to immediately clear the field of all of the people that would get in your way otherwise. If you’ve got a really good hand, then you want to bulldoze just about anyone. Position is important, but when you have AA or KK or QQ, you don’t need to think about position.

The only time that you will want to think about position at this point is if you have JJ or AQ — you only want to play those in middle or late position when no one has raised before the action has gotten to you. This is pretty safe without you risking all of your chips for no reason.

So, what do you really do with small pairs? Remember we’re talking about before the flop has come down. You really want to either fold your hand completely if the raises have already started to fly. If there hasn’t been a raise then you can raise four big blinds — but no more than that.

Limping in doesn’t really make sense, but if you’re determined to limp in anyway, you want to ensure that you are in late position only. Trying to limp in from other positions really puts you in a weak place, and weakness isn’t good in poker — cut it out for best results!

Once the flop has come down, you need to immediately decide if you have anything. No, a single pair is not “something” — fold and get out of there. If you’ve got two pair, that’s when things start looking sort of sexy. You can go in if you’ve got two pair that’s pretty high, like pair of kings and pair of 10s. That would be a hand that we would love to have in an all-in situation — we’ve already determined our mission, and we could push people out of the pot without having to really worry about it.

Be cautious if you’re playing against multiple opponents in a large group — things can get slippery quickly!

Now, these are the tips that you want to put into motion if you’re in the early stage of a freeroll because you’re trying to blow away as much of the competition as possible. What happens when you slide into the late stages?

It’s really simple — you will want to look at your crowd. The weaker players will have lower chip stacks, which means that they’re going to be limited to what type of action they can really bring to the table. Players that have a lot more chips than you do need to be taken seriously — they can really bully you, and that means that you want to always be sure that you have a really good hand before you jump into any round.

Before the flop, you want to raise if you’ve got AA, KK, QQ, JJ, TT. AK will also work. How high do you want to raise? Four big blinds, and nothing more than that. If someone pushes you to raise again, then you will want to skip the chatter and go for the big finish — yep, that’s right. You go all-in.

If you’ve got a high pocket pair aside from what’s above and you’re in middle to late position, you can still raise. KQ, AJ, and AQ would also be potential targets for a good raise. Now, if someone raises you here, you will want to fold KQ or AJ — everything else should be an “all-in” bet.

After the flop, you need to decide immediately what you want to do. Again, freerolls are a type of tournament where you have to be decisive. You cannot feel like you can just weave in and out of pots, especially in the late stages.

Now we’re coming to the final table — this is where most newbies want to be, and it’s hard to get here just by playing a random game. You need to be on your toes, because everyone is going to be on their toes too. The blinds are probably also escalating more quickly, which means that every turn you’re really going to have to decide what you do.

Watch out for the person in early position who raises — that might be a time where you’ll need to fold.

Play aggressively, but make sure that you use good sense. If you aren’t holding a pair, chances are good that you’ll be folding a lot. Connecting cards at the final table just aren’t good enough to push all in, you know!

There’s something interesting about poker: the more you get interested in poker, the more it demands out of you. Strategy is the name of the game here, and you will need to make sure that you’re really looking into things as much as possible. If you’re really thinking about trying to learn how to win big money, then you might want to think about playing poker at multiple casinos in order to find the best online casino for you. It’s really all about getting the best deals possible.

Deals? Yes, there is definitely a monetary reason why you should look into playing poker at multiple casinos. Not every casino offers the same type of bonus. This means that you could go to one casino and get a small bonus, but go to another casino and get a massive bonus. You never know until you really start looking around. It can be hard to think to yourself that you should even be a shark like this, but the casinos are used to such behavior. Many players play at multiple casinos, and they bring their money to the game like anyone else would. That’s why the casinos aren’t really fazed — it’s more money in their pockets over the long run.

Another reason why you might want to play at multiple casinos is because you want to get a nice taste of the competition that’s out there. Sure, you could stay around the competition that you’re used to playing, but there will come a time in your poker career where you really want to go against people that might be a little bit better than you. Of course, it can be hard to know when that time will actually come. It just depends on what you want to get out of your poker game.

We all come to a point where we’re looking for fast money, and there’s nothing wrong with playing against people that are a bit weaker than you. OK, we can be blunt since we’re talking to fellow poker players: who doesn’t like fish? Fish are players that are not only weak, but they make ridiculous decisions. You can take fish money pretty easily, especially when you think about the fact that fish generally have no strategy at all. If you want to really make sure that you have things together, then it’s definitely smart to add fish to your strategy too. You can often offset the challenge of taking on a hard tourney with playing in a few rooms that are known for fish.

Think on this as well — those casinos that promote the huge bonuses tend to attract a lot of fish. If you know a casino is more known for bonuses and sportsbook action than actual poker, you can stop in and clean up at least a few nights a week. It might not be consistent money, but it’s still some money in your pocket while you figure out the rest of what you want to achieve in poker.

Deep down, you have to have your own reasons to play multiple casinos. It can be hard to keep up with that much action, but no one says that you have to play them all at the same time! You might find that the action is hot at one casino over another, and you will play there for a few weeks, and then switch it up. This will also help you keep your cover. While a lot of people know about this general method, no one likes being considered an easy target in poker. You want to give yourself enough stealth so that people don’t switch things up just because you’re coming through.

Overall, it’s a great day to really jump into playing poker at multiple casinos — will you make it your day to see what’s out there?

There are strong tendencies with players who are new to Texas Hold em poker to use system based play to try and extract money from the game. This article addresses the possibilities of being able to do so. Firstly we need to address what is meant by system based play. Usually what is meant is that your play is dictated by a series of rules that differ in complexity. Let us look at a simple and classic system that more and more people are starting to use in Texas Holdem poker these days and it is minimum stacking. This is the process of buying in for the minimum and then looking to get all in either before the flop or on the flop.

It is customary for players to wait until they have premium hands or hands that they believe have equity against their opponents range. As part of this system then they usually leave the table when they double up or increase their stack by a significant amount. Now under the right set of circumstances then this system is effective, if it wasn’t then the system would never get the level of popularity that it does. However it is also a very simple strategy and when a strategy is simple then the way to combat that strategy is also simple.

There are many ways to combat short stack players and the first and most straight forward is to simply avoid them by choosing games where there are no minimum stackers or there are only one or two of them. The next tactic is to simply not give them action when they are on your table. If they raise or even limp then you know what their hand range is. Good minimum stackers often limp re-raise and this is a standard tactic. But the lesson here is clear in that if the system is simple then the way to combat that system is also simple. No clearer example of this is seen than in the game of noughts and crosses.

The player who goes first has an easy unbeatable system of never ever getting beaten. However the system is so easy that it is also easy to combat and the player going second can combat the system by also playing in a way that never loses. So it is clear then that simple systems can only be effective if you find opponents who do not know or understand the simple responses. More complex system based play stands a better chance of being successful because the techniques to combat the system are also more complicated.

However poker is non linear in nature meaning that your earnings are irregular as are the actions of your opponents. This means that it is difficult for linear strategies to work over the long term in an environment that is non linear. Most systems have sell by dates and this is clearly seen in the world of sports betting. Do not expect to get rich with system based play in Texas Holdem poker but you can make small profits and it is better to play with a decent system as a novice player than to play badly without one.

There’s really two ways to play video poker — you can go head to head online, or you can go with a tournament style that will have you going to multiple tables and playing against dozens of players. This is something that’s a lot more intense than people think, because it means that you will need to think about how to play against a lot of different people’s playing styles. This is a psychological game that you might not be willing to play.

Now, if you really want to think about tournament play, here’s what you really do need to know before you get started.

First and foremost, you will need to think about how to get into the right tournament. It’s important to remember that not all tournaments are created equal, which means that you need to look at the stakes as well as remember that the higher the stakes, the more likely it is that you will be going toe to toe with skilled players. You don’t want to just stop and think that there’s never going to be a time where you won’t have to get things done. You just need to look at tournament play form a different angle than you might for a practice game.

Does that mean that practice games don’t have their place in the world of online poker tournaments? Of course they do. You just need to make sure that you don’t assume that your real play is going to be exactly like your practice run — unless you’re playing real players, of course. If you spend too much time playing robots, you won’t really have what it takes to go head to head against live players and knock them out of the tournament.

Speaking of players, you will need to think carefully about the people that you’re going against. You will have newcomers and bluffers alike trying to get you to unravel and get frazzled. This is something that you will definitely need to make sure that you avoid, because you won’t be playing your best game.

If you get sucked into thoughts that you will not be as good of a player as someone else, you wills tart making bad decisions. In time, you will have essentially created a self-fulfilling prophecy, and who wants to really do that at all?

There is also something to be said about the technical constraints of the casino where you will be playing your online poker tournament. Every casino has its own way of doing things, and even if they don’t want to admit it, every casino has its own share of bugs that have to be examined and analyzed. You don’t want to have your winning streak broken up by technical problems.

Before you sit down for a tournament, you will need to make sure that you have handled any physical needs, like getting a drink or using the bathroom. On the technical side, you will need to make sure that you aren’t running a lot of applications. If you’re on a laptop, you will want to monitor your laptop temperature. Most laptops shut down if they reach a certain temperature.

Overall, there are a lot of things that you will need to do if you’re really serious about getting into tournament play. The greatest thing that you will need to do is actually believe in yourself. It’s tempting to have doubts and fears, but you will need to break through those. Will you necessarily win your first tournament? No, but you will be able to handle just about anything that comes your way as long as you stay focused and keep improving your game!

Like any game or sport the world series is the biggest poker tournament that there is. It is played in Las Vegas and started in 1970. It has an interesting history, where a great poker player, Benny Binion, invited six other players to the Horseshoe Casino to play a single tournament to see which of them was the best. They played for certain amount of time and the winner was decided by a secret ballot.

Since then, there have been many changes to the tournament. Winners receive a World Series of Poker bracelet which are highly coveted. There is also a big money prize, which is determined by how many people enter and how much the buy-in for. There are now a whole selection of events, not just the one game which means that a lot more people can take part. The biggest event is the $10,000 no-limit hold’em ‘Main Event’ and since 2004 it has attracted thousands of entrants. There is a million dollar prize, so this is not surprising! The winner of this event is considered to be the World Champion of Poker.

The various events often have different variants of the game played in them. There are also various qualifying events which means that a lot of people get a chance of playing, but of course, only the very best players get through to the finals. Poker online play is allowed as well, which means that many different people can take part from all over the world.

In 2004, it was Harrah’s Entertainment that bought the rights to the tournament and it is hosted in the Rio casino. It tends to be hosted in different Hurrah’s owned casinos. One of the most exciting finals was in 1982 when Jack Straus thought he had lost and then found that he had one remaining $500 chip which he bet and then came back to win. In 2009 there were 264 rounds played before a winner was declared. Two players have won three times and several have one twice. Only three players have won in consecutive years.

The tournament has grown massively in popularity and in 1973 it was first televised. In the 1990’s the live even was broadcast but in more recent time it tended to be an edited version which was more of an overview rather than the whole event with commentary and analysis. Nowadays more of the live event is televised and some of the preliminary games are as well.
